New mirrors on my trike

It’s been about 6 months now since I’ve got my Trident Stowaway trike. Up until now I’ve only ridden about 400 km, but one thing I wanted to change from the beginning was the mirror! The Stowaway came with 1 mirror, on the left side.

Not a bad mirror mind you, but due to the flexible rod it was prone to vibrations. Just a slight uneven road surface and I didn’t have a clear view behind me. It was a convex mirror, great field of vision but a bit of a distorted view. And I wanted a double mirror on my trike, to get an even better view of what might be approaching or happening behind me. And of course, if you mount 2 mirrors they have to be (almost) identical. Yes, appearance does matter!  😉

After a bit of an internet search, I’ve ended up buying Zefal Cyclop mirrors. A plane mirror on a short mount, so a rather realistic view without vibrations.

The original mirror was mounted on the headset of the left front wheel. To me, a bit far from my face. So I made a construction with bar-ends on the handlebars which gives me easy acces to both mirrors and easy views to the back. And it picks up less vibrations from the front wheel.

I’ve had a set of bar-ends on my handlebars, as an aid to get in and out of the seat. I’ve put an extra set on the end of those to mount my mirros.

During my commute (about 60 km) taking me over brick roads, forest trails and cobblestones these mirrors and this construction suits just fine. Pretty good rear view and almost no vibrations (except while riding cobblestones).

Those Zefal Cyclop mirrors are a big improvement!
