Home made toe straps

Although a recumbent trike is very comfortable and stable to ride, it holds one risk of injury, namely “leg suck”, when your foot slips from the pedal while riding and gets underneath your trike. This can result in serious injuries.

A lot of trikes are equipped with toeclips, replaced by clipless pedals by many riders. Even with toeclips there’s always the danger of your foot slipping of the pedal while riding over a bump or puthole, etc… But clipless pedals aren’t really my thing. When my legs are ready, I want to go commuting on my trike, wearing my workboots. And my workboots don’t hold cleats. In fact, I want to be able to go out riding whatever shoes I’m wearing.

So, after doing some searching on the net, I’ve decided to try and make my own toe straps or pedal straps, combined with heel slings.

Headlights powered by a usb powerbank

One of the first additions to my new trike are 2 headlights. At first I was wondering about choosing battery powered lights or headlights for a hub generator. But on my other bikes I have Busch & Muller headlights on a dynamo hub and I very much like the amount of light and the dispersion of the light. So I went for the same headlights on my trike, but this time powered by a usb powerbank.

A new start, by choice this time!

Cycling is one of my hobbies. Riding a bike, maintaining a bike and tinkering on a bike. However, since January 2014 my cycling went downhill (in the bad kind of way!). Due to broken toes, bad back, bad legs, etc… I hardly got on the bike. This meant that my physical condition deteriorated to, not to mention my motivation for cycling. And finding motivation again is one of the hardest things. Because of my back problems I realized that keeping on cycling on a normal bike wouldn’t be the right thing to do, so to make a new start I started looking into recumbent bikes again and in november I’ve decided to buy a recumbent trike. (these got my attention many years ago b.t.w.)

Restore or revamp

As some of you know, I like vintage bicycles. You’ve probable seen some photo’s of my 1973 Flandria come along here, on my timeline on twitter or PedalBuddies. If not, let me introduce you to this old belgian…
