As some of you might know by now, I am from Zeelandic Flanders or Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. And proud of it! A beautiful part of The Netherlands (just!) Shielded by the Western Skeldt (Westerschelde) on the north, Belgium border on the south and divided into two by the channel from Gent to Terneuzen (or from Terneuzen to Gent if you so desire. )

I love to go out on a ride before sunrise,
watching the sun waking up the world is often one of the highlights of a ride...
Some people just don't give a damn about others.
Yesterday, 17-02-2018, I've encountered this oncoming farmer. I have 3 headlights on my trike, so I thought I was pretty visible. This farmer was either sleeping, playing with his phone or just don't gives a shit about other road users.
For quite some time now, al the computers here have GNU/Linux as an operating system. The only bit resembling MS Windows is Wine on a laptop in case we should need to run some Windows software. But up till now, we never had the need for it. There is plenty of choice in free GNU/Linux software, so we can always find a good alternative.
For a while now, I was looking for a way to mount side bags to my trike. For easy to reach stuff while riding and for those things you want to keep an eye on. Like camera, keys, wallet, snacks, etc...
It's been about 6 months now since I've got my Trident Stowaway trike. Up until now I've only ridden about 400 km, but one thing I wanted to change from the beginning was the mirror! The Stowaway came with 1 mirror, on the left side.
From mechanical odometer and cycle computer to smartphone app. I've used it almost all. Nowadays I use both cycle computer and smartphone app. Cycle computer because I had it at hand (and while mounted on the bike it's not just lying around), app because I like to look back at the rides I've been doing.
Last week I've brought my old Flandria bike to the recycling center. I had 4 bikes in the shed and next month my wife will probably be buying a trike too. SoI had to make room for another tricycle. I do feel sorry for "dumping" the old beast.
Because I have a bad back, I've mounted bar-ends on the handlebar of my trike to help me get in and out of my trike. (Or whatever you call it with a tadpole trike )
Yesterday I did the first (short) ride of the year on my Trident Stowaway trike. Despite the cold it felt good riding again, but my legs are gonna need a lot more work out rides to become recumbent legs again. For now: easy does it, the rest will come!
First ride of the year on my Trident Stowaway trike.
Might take a while before I've got my recumbent legs I guess...
One of the first additions to my new trike are 2 headlights. At first I was wondering about choosing battery powered lights or headlights for a hub generator. But on my other bikes I have Busch & Muller headlights on a dynamo hub and I very much like the amount of light and the dispersion of the light. So I went for the same headlights on my trike, but this time powered by a usb powerbank.
Cycling is one of my hobbies. Riding a bike, maintaining a bike and tinkering on a bike. However, since January 2014 my cycling went downhill (in the bad kind of way!). Due to broken toes, bad back, bad legs, etc... I hardly got on the bike. This meant that my physical condition deteriorated to, not to mention my motivation for cycling. And finding motivation again is one of the hardest things.
Early december my site was moved from one server to another as the hosting company was taken over by another. Moving the site didn't go quite flawless it seems. Checking my site after the move and the database of my wordpress site was completely empty! No posts, no replies, no settings for site or plug-in's.
As some of you know, I like vintage bicycles. You've probable seen some photo's of my 1973 Flandria come along here, on my timeline on twitter or PedalBuddies. If not, let me introduce you to this old belgian bike:
Cycling, it's a big and important part of my life. From my first hand-me-down tricycle to the commuter/touring bike I've assembled myself and the vintage bike I've saved from the rust demon and oblivion, there have always been bicycles in my life. It's the riding that went through several changes over the years.
